Stuart St Clair
Chief Executive

Stuart was appointed Chief Executive of the ATA in March 2006. Stuart’s career spans the timber industry, trucking, business management and local, state and federal politics.

Following active industry participation in Sydney and Brisbane, he became the owner operator of a sawmilling business in the northern New South Wales town of Guyra, taking an active role in the community.

This led to his election to the Guyra Shire Council in 1987; he later served as Mayor. He stood for the Australian Parliament and was elected to the House of Representatives in 1998 as the Member for New England. <More>

David Coonan
National Manager Policy

David brings a wealth of policy making and technical expertise to his role as National Manager Policy at the Australian Trucking Association.

His experience includes fleet management, road authority policy development, government advising and working with the National Transport Commission to develop transport policy.

David has engineering and management qualifications and was involved in the development policy regarding of Chain of Responsibility, road rules, Australian Design Rules, NTC policy and ATC briefings.

David holds an articulated drivers licence.

Bill McKinley
National Manager Government Relations and Communications

Bill joined the ATA in 2007 after a 17-year career as a political adviser in Queensland and national politics. Most notably, he was the communications adviser to Deputy Prime Ministers John Anderson (2002-2005) and Mark Vaile (2005-2007).

Bill is responsible for the ATA’s government relations and communications activities, including the TruckWeek industry promotion event, which is held every two years. Bill also manages the ATA’s strategic planning process.
 
He has an arts degree with majors in government and economics, and is a member of the Public Relations Institute of Australia.

Steve Williamson
National Manager Corporate Relations

Steve Williamson has a background in media and marketing. He was a broadcaster and journalist, eventually becoming marketing manager for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

He has managed projects and business units in the Australian Government, was a national director for a peak industry association and, before joining the Australian Trucking Association in 2007, was general manager for an events production company.

Steve's role at the ATA began as the designer and project manager of The Road Ahead trucking industry touring exhibition.

As the National Manager Corporate Relations, he retains overall resonsibility for The Road Ahead, as well as the ATA's major events, is the secretary to the ATA National Awards Committee and maintains relationships with the trucking industry's suppliers.

Jenny Stensrud
Financial Manager

Jenny brings a wealth of experience to the Australian Trucking Association. She has extensive experience working in a range of multi-faceted finance roles, with some of Australia’s biggest and most respected companies over many years.

Jenny has a deep understanding of the unique requirements of a not-for-profit business and works closely with all departments within the ATA to develop a responsible approach to its finances.

She holds a Graduate Certificate in Professional Accountancy and is a member of the National Institute of Accountants.

Peter Elliot
TruckSafe Manager

Peter has worked a range of large and small transport companies for over 25 years in a variety of roles, including as a driver, administrator, scheduler and in depot and area management and fleet accreditation.

Peter has previously worked for Pioneer Concrete, Boral Transport, Origin Energy, Shell Logistics, a local Canberra transport company and has run his own family business.

Peter is committed to improving the safety of the Australian trucking industry. He currently holds a HR licence.

Chris Head
Building and Services Manager

Chris brings a vast level of expertise to his role of Building and Services Manager. As well as formal qualifications as an electrical fitter, Chris has over 20 years experience in building maintenance and control.

Chris manages the ATA’s national headquarters, a magnificent five star rated office building. Utilising the latest technology, the $40 million building offers its high quality tenants a unique environment in the much sought after parliamentary triangle. The national headquarters houses some of the country’s leading businesses and government departments and has workspace for over 700 employees.

Chris is also the building’s chief fire warden and senior first aid officer and manages the communications and information technology needs of the ATA.

Steve Power
Events Manager

Steve has over 25 years experience in the field of event management, working with some of the biggest organisations across Australia.

Steve hold an Associate Diploma in Business and Accounting, a traineeship in business management and is the co-founder of one of Perth’s most successful events management companies, recommended by many of Perth’s leading venues.

Through the Events Manager position, Steve brings a great understanding of how to run successful and profitable events to the ATA.

Anna Snow
Personal Assistant to the Chief Executive

Anna has more than 10 years experience as an Executive Assistant across both Australia and New Zealand in both private companies and government departments.

Professionally qualified in Business Administration, Anna brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role. As well as offering executive assistance to the Chief Executive, Anna facilitates the use of the Allan Scott AO Conference Centre and coordinates  the itinerary of the ATA’s travelling exhibition centre, The Road Ahead.

Anna is also currently working towards a Bachelor of Education.

Michelle Chu
Finance Officer

Michelle brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role as Finance Officer. She has completed a Bachelor of Social Science (Economics), Masters of Accounting, Masters of Journalism and is an Associate Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA).

She has undertaken a number of internships with leading Australian and International companies and government departments and has worked with the Australian National University (ANU) on their research into taxation.

David Bauche
Communications Adviser

David has more than seven years experience in the media, working for companies such as AAP, Rural Press, Fairfax and Grant Broadcasters.

After completing a degree in Economics, David began his career in newspapers, moving through to the position of journalist-in-charge. From there he moved to radio, running a busy newsroom and hosting a popular talkback show.

He has been recognised with numerous awards including the Australian Country Press Rural Newspaper of the Year, New South Wales Country Press Award for Community Involvement, Minerals Council of Australia Journalistic Fellowship and an Australian Commercial Radio Award.

Justin Fleming
TruckSafe Officer

Justin brings a wealth of experience in the trucking industry to his role as TruckSafe Officer. He has been involved in the industry for over 25 years, driving for some of Australia biggest and most respected companies.

Justin has a good understand of how trucking companies work and has, throughout his working life, been committed to improving the safety of the industry. In his role at TruckSafe, Justin uses his knowledge of the industry to assist accredited operators continue to improve their safety record.

Justin holds a multi-combination (MC) licence and still regularly drives.

Kate Martin
Policy Adviser

Kate holds a double degree in Economics and Commerce and, before joining the ATA, undertook a Government internship, working with some of the Australian Government’s most respected departments.

Due to her close work with the Australian Government, Kate has developed a number of professional relationships, which hold her in good stead when developing and promoting policy on behalf of the ATA.

She has also secured a secondment with COAG’s Road Reform Plan, representing the trucking industry in the development of government policy.

Lauren Ogden
The Road Ahead Education and Exhibition Manager

Lauren brings to her role as the The Road Ahead Education and Exhibition Manager over seven years experience working with children.

Following the completion of her Bachelor of Education (Primary) at the University of Canberra, Lauren has worked closely with children in a wide range of roles, including teaching, after school hours care, disability support and attraction presenter.

She brings a high level of enthusiasm to her role with the ATA, has endless patience and is committed to introducing the trucking industry and road safety messages to students across Australia.

Nerissa Simpson
Administration and Events Officer

Nerissa brings 10 years in events and hospitality experience to her current role as the ATA’s Administration and Events Officer.

After completing an Advanced Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality and a Certificate III in Event Management, Nerissa worked with some of the country’s most prestigious organisations in the fields of event coordination, guest relations and customer service.
