To celebrate International Women’s Day today, the Australian Trucking Association is calling for nominations for its National Trucking Industry Woman of the Year Award.

This award is one of the annual National Trucking Industry Awards, which are presented each year by the ATA.

Ideas needed to save transport business

A trucking business with a hundred employees is struggling. Its major customers have insisted on a rate cut and its costs are rising. Its costs will go up even further when the carbon tax starts in July 2014.

Delegates at Trucking Australia 2013 will work in teams to develop a turnaround plan for this business. Trucking Australia 2013 will be held at Hamilton Island on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 June.

ATA Chairman to address National Press Club

The Chairman of the Australian Trucking Association, David Simon, will address the National Press Club in Canberra on 3 April 2013.
As part of his speech, Mr Simon will release a major report into road funding and how the trucking industry is charged for its use of the road system.

Exempt sleeper cab air conditioners from fuel tax

22 February 2013

The fuel used to run sleeper cab air conditioners in long distance trucks should be exempt from fuel tax, the Chief Executive of the Australian Trucking Association, Stuart St Clair, said today.

Mr St Clair was releasing the ATA’s submission to the tax office on fuel tax credits for auxiliary equipment fitted to trucks and trailers such as refrigeration units and cement mixers.

New fatigue research body to reduce truck crashes

The Australian Government’s decision to fund a new Co-operative Research Centre for Alertness, Safety and Productivity has the potential to reduce the number of fatigue related truck crashes, the Chairman of the Australian Trucking Association, David Simon, said today.

Nominations for the 2013 National Trucking Industry Awards are now open. These prestigious awards honour the commitment and achievements of individuals and organisations in all fields of endeavour throughout the road freight transport industry.

The awards will be presented on Friday 21 June at Trucking Australia 2013 on Hamilton Island. This tropical island will play host to the industry’s night of nights, sponsored by the ATA’s Foundation Sponsors: BP Australia, National Transport Insurance and Volvo Group Australia.

Trucking industry pays tribute to Joe Rizzo

The Australian Trucking Association has today paid tribute to the outgoing managing director of PACCAR Australia, Joe Rizzo. After 35 years with PACCAR Australia, Mr Rizzo announced his retirement this week. He will leave the company in March. PACCAR Australia manufactures Kenworth trucks in Melbourne and imports DAF medium and heavy duty trucks.
